Responsive design is the “big thing” in web design right now. It is a method of design that allows one site to display and function well across a wide range of devices, including desktops, laptops, tablets and mobiles. We live in a multi-screen society. Because of this, it’s important for your site to be viewable across as many devices as possible.
Busy lives demand more immediate ways of consuming information. This is causing the population to access websites via their phones and tablets more than ever before.
Provide parents with the information they need
Parents tend to visit school websites for information they want, or need, immediately. This is why it’s important for all school websites to be mobile friendly. This is something Hive keep in mind when designing websites in the educational sector. Information on the move is important. 97% of 25-34 year olds and 96% of 35-44 year olds now own a Smartphone. Smartphones are a preferred “go-to” device over desktops and laptops these days. On average we find about 60% of users are viewing school websites on their phone.
Websites are generally handy to access whilst on the move, especially school websites. Parents may need to find a time of an after school club, whether or not the school has been shut due to bad weather conditions. The list is endless. Responsive design can help you solve many communication issues direct from your website.
It is vital to make the design look just as good, and work just as well. On mobile as it would on desktop. Using a non-responsive or mobile site can be a frustrating experience, it may cause the website to look ‘broken’ and information may not be as easy to find and read. This may divert people away from the website and contact the school directly rather than encouraging return visits to the site for a handy ‘centre of information’. Improving the way the website looks on multiple devices, with both large and small screens, will make information more easily accessible and ultimately, your website more effective.
